This is a study of a study John Singer Sargent painted for his "Oyster Gatherers of Cancale" piece, done for my Viscomm5 class. This class is all about gaining skills in using traditional medias, and is probably one of the more fun ones I've yet to participate in at Art Center. It's making me dive deep into working with materials I either never touched or fiercely avoided and I'm finding that I actually love.
This was a particularly challenging one for me both because of the seemingly loose, but highly deliberate nature of Sargent's work and because of the apparent wide range of colors that are created from a simple limited masters' palette.
